Son of a Ghost

Son of a Ghost is a collaboration between artist Robert X Fogarty and his mother Mary Beth Fogarty, who died by suicide in 2002. Robert enlisted the support of artists Maya Pen and Mitchell Richmond to help conceptualize and fabricate the work. The resulting pieces--living under the pen name "Son of a Ghost"--consist of epoxy-coated lightboxes which house Mary Beth's original paintings. Each box is covered with Robert's handwritten letters to his mother,  and symbols that align with his visual associations to her paintings.

These first 11 pieces currently reside in the Mary Beth Hotel & Gallery. The team is also working to finish a documentary about the process and unfolding of Mary Beth and Robert's posthumous relationship.
